Which mobile devices does the guide work on?

GIDA is available for Apple® iOS® and Google® Android® tablets and mobile phones. These two operating systems currently account for 82% of the European market (according to Kantar Worldpanel ComTech reports).

It works perfectly well on devices with Apple® iOS® 5.0 and later and Google® Android® 2.3 and later operating systems.

Do I need an internet connection?

You will need an internet connection to download the guide and to receive both content updates as well as application software updates. You can download the application using the Wi-Fi connection in your home, hotel, museum lobby or other institution. Once the application has been downloaded, the audiovisual guide no longer requires a connection to the internet.

Does the application work in spaces with no internet data connection?

Once the application has been downloaded, the audiovisual guide does not require a connection to the internet. All functions necessary for the visit, e.g. orientation, information, audio-guide and video, are available and work perfectly well without an internet connection in indoor spaces as well as in those out of range of any data connection.

Internet access is only needed for interaction through social networks and for news readers, none of which are essential for the visit.

Does the application work in open spaces?

The guide works perfectly well in open spaces as it does indoors. The application is also equipped with GPS technology for orientation and to localize points of interest.

Can I apply my corporate image to the guide?

Personalization is the first step to setting up our guide. It involves inserting and modifying graphical elements such as our logo, colors and fonts. This process is done by Alambre Estudio after which GIDA will become your specific guide.

Personalization requires very little time if you have high-resolution images and all other essential items, such as your logo, if they are in an editable format, as well as a clearly defined color range and fonts.


How much time does it take to install the guide?

Once the first phase of personalization has been completed, the time required to install the guide can vary.

It depends mainly on the amount of content to be inserted and on the possible need to create additional content. Once all the content is prepared, the process of insertion is quick and simple with the use of the content manager.


Can I set up the guide on my own?

The process of personalizing the guide is relatively quick and needs to be done by qualified professionals from Alambre Estudio. The rest of the content insertion process can be done totally independently.

To make the guide, we use content that is readily available: texts, photographs, map routes, audio files and videos. Prior to inserting the content into the guide, it is necessary to optimize it in order to ensure that it works properly on mobile devices.

User manuals are made available by Alambre Estudio with clear indications as to the most suitable formats and ways to optimize the content for later insertion into the guide.


Will I need to buy additional hardware?

As visitors will be carrying their own standard mobile devices, it will not be necessary to acquire new hardware. However, we recommend that the museum provide Wi-Fi access to visitors so that they may download the guide in case they haven’t done so previously.

Can the guide be set up without audio?

The application works perfectly well without audio. If audio is not available, it will simply not show up on the application and it will not affect any other function on the guide. Audio can be incorporated afterwards through the content manager if desired.

Can the guide contain videos?

The guide supports videos. These can be inserted through the content manager and their format must be appropriate for use on mobile devices.

Can I modify the content on my own?

We went to great lengths to design GIDA with a high degree of autonomy with regard to content management. This makes it possible for your own staff to modify the contents in the guide.

Can the application help me design an itinerary?

With the content manager, you can easily create new exhibitions, routes and promenades. While installing the guide, it’s advisable to follow an itinerary and test “in situ” that it works. It’s quick and it speeds up decision making.

This makes it possible to create personalized itineraries for different types of audiences: children, adults, art experts, people with some sort of disability, etc.


Is it adaptable for people with disabilities?

GIDA can be adapted for people with different disabilities: people with limited mobility, or with visual or hearing impairment. The design of specific itineraries, personalized maps and the use of audio, videoclips and text make it possible to completely adapt the information and provide easier access to the premises and routes. Hence, GIDA increments and enhances access for people with disabilities.

An all-in-one guide makes it possible to design itineraries adapted to different types of visitors.

How can a user get the application?

The user can obtain the guide by downloading it online to their device from Apple® and Google® stores.

It is also possible to own devices with pre-installed applications and to rent these out to visitors as is done with traditional audio-guides.

Can we charge the users for the guide?

Visitors can be charged for use of the guide. The decision lies with the museum, as does the price to be charged. The fee is subject to Apple® and Google® terms, and in this case a 30% commission per unit sold applies.

Are any costs involved if distribution is free?

In the event the museum allows visitors to download the application free of charge, there are no distribution costs involved. (Subject to Apple® and Google® terms)

Will the application become obsolete over time?

Alambre Estudio offers optional maintenance service and software updates for the guide. The service includes verification of device as well as guide compatibility and adaptation to new operating systems as well as improvements to the software itself.

We also plan to expand the range of platforms that support the application to for example, notice boards and to make it possible to share the information it contains on websites.
