Sagardoetxea, the Basque Cider Museum

The audiovisual guide has been conceived as a resource for museum guides on guided tours. Consequently, only the tablet version has been developed.

Sagardoetxea, The Basque Cider Museum, is the ideal place to experience the cider culture. The museum has three different areas: the museum, the tasting centre, and the outdoor apple orchard.

Based on the museum archives, we have created a turnkey project: conception, development of material and maps, follow up, launching and maintenance. To do so, we have developed new material for the application such as videoclips, audio, photographs and maps. At the same time, we have reused part of the material already available and adapted it graphically in order to standardize the guide. The guide has different geo-localization options: GPS, QR and numerical. If desired, the application can be used solely as an audioguide. It is important to highlight that the Sagardoetxea staff can manage all the information in the guide from the content manager itself.

In addition to information about the different museum spaces, the guide also includes a thematic tour of “Santiagomendiko Sagardo Bidea”. This is a tour around the apple orchards and cider press cottages where cider was made and it starts at the Sagardoetxea orchard. It is a six-kilometer tour with eight stations where guided tours are not available and where the audiovisual guide is very useful. It includes a map of the tour with GPS positioning, photos and audio to supplement the posters on the walls as well as the information available along the route between stations.

The museum, the thematic tour and the audiovisual guide all offer us the opportunity to learn about the cider-making process as well as the history and tradition of this millenary drink. And to finish off the day, what could be better than to go to a traditional cider house and taste the cider right out of the barrels.
